The PhD Program Director is appointed by the Dean and has administrative responsibility for innovating, implementing and evaluating the PhD program in the college.  The PhD Program Director will represent the college to internal university and external constituents in the areas of curriculum and academic programming for the PhD program. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position with administrative effort of 25%. Productivity in scholarship and extramural research funding, preferably by the National Institutes of Health, is an expectation of this position. The PhD Program Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Educational Innovation. The PhD Program Director is expected to demonstrate teaching excellence, ensure the quality of the program, oversee the College’s pre-doctoral science (PhD) program and help link research and research training to College research development. S/he will maintain a funded program of research, assist pre-doctoral nursing student colleagues with their research career scholarship, make outcomes visible and collaborate with the Senior Associate Dean for Research in use of research resources and fit with faculty programs of research in the College. General responsibilities include but are not limited to:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program: 

  • Lead, monitor and promote the PhD program
  • Conduct periodic studies to determine program viability, trends, success and quality improvement
  • Develop innovative curriculum to prepare graduates in nursing science
  • Mentor faculty in the PhD program to assure the highest-quality education for students
  • Ensure adherence to state and national standards related to PhD education
  • Collaborate within the college with other units and as well as with colleges and schools across the university as it relates to the PhD program
  • Establish and evaluate benchmarks for success for PhD student scholarly outcomes
  • Lead development of student recruitment and retention strategies committed to a diverse community in collaboration with Office of Student Affairs and Success
  • Implement and evaluate strategic initiatives for the PhD, including admissions, curricular revisions and enrollment targets
  • Develop and monitor PhD program quality and student learning outcomes
  • Partner with Marketing and Student Affairs and Success recruiters to develop and implement strategies for recruiting students to the PhD program
  • Mentor and advocate for the PhD students
  • Establish a strong collaboration with the DNP program to foster collaborative initiatives among PhD and DNP students to translate the generation of evidence into real-world practice settings 

University and Campus:

  • Act as liaison to and facilitator for inter-institutional and inter-disciplinary research and research training initiatives, as appropriate
  • Contribute to quality outcomes in alignment with the graduate school

External Community:

  • Develop and create visibility for college-aligned research and research training across constituents
  • Broker partnerships with community leaders and agencies for synergistic research interface
